Coal to Naphtha (석탄에서 납사 생산)
Coal to Olefin (석탄에서 올레핀 생산)
(Syngas)
1. Coal to Naphtha
[Process Flow]
- Step 1: Gasification
- Coal is subjected to high temperature and high pressure to produce Syngas (a mixture of CO and H2).
- Step 2: Fischer-Tropsch (F-T) Synthesis
- Syngas undergoes the [Fischer-Tropsch process], where CO and H2 are chemically combined using catalysts (such as Iron or Cobalt) to form long carbon chains, resulting in Synthetic Crude (Syncrude) in liquid form.
- Step 3: Refining & Production
- The synthetic crude is refined to produce Naphtha and various fuel oils (Diesel, Kerosene, etc.).
[Key Characteristic]
- While Naphtha produced via this route can be cracked to yield both olefins and aromatics, the primary objective of this process is typically the production of liquid fuel oils. In this context, Naphtha is essentially considered a by-product.
2. Coal to Olefins
[Process Flow]
- Step 1: Gasification
- Coal is converted into Syngas (CO + H2).
- Step 2: Methanol Synthesis
- Syngas is converted into Methanol (CH3OH) through catalytic synthesis.
- Step 3: MTO/MTP Reaction (via Zeolite Catalyst)
- Water (H2O) is removed from the Methanol using a Zeolite catalyst to convert it directly into Ethylene (C2H4) and Propylene (C3H6).
[Key Characteristic]
- The process allows for production control: by adjusting reaction conditions and catalyst types, producers can decide whether to maximize Ethylene (MTO – Methanol-to-Olefins) or Propylene (MTP – Methanol-to-Propylene) yields.
